I can't believe it's 2026 already! I wanted to check in and kick off the year with a sew along we're starting in January. This is a super casual sew along, so don't stress if you're not ready to dive in just yet. Every year I have a "scrap" project. I have a million scraps and I love playing with them, but I also love falling in love with a new project so my scraps continue to grow and grow. The ladies at the store recently re-discovered the Village quilt pattern by Miss Rosie's Quilt Co. During the pandemic the designer allowed Moda to release the pattern for free on their blog. If you search for the quilt in Instagram there are a ton of inspiration images from people who sewed along in 2020.

I always wanted to make this quilt but it didn't happen so we said why not now! When we looked at the pattern it was written for a charm pack, but I wanted a less fussier way to make the roofs and houses. So I changed the dimensions a bit so a basic flying geese could be made with the sew and flip method and/or 4 at a time.
This new house still fits the layout in the original pattern. If you do the 4 at a time method for the roofs, you will have 4 roofs that are the same throughout the quilt. This takes away from the scrappiness a bit, but I figured there are over 100 houses in this quilt 4 roofs may or may not bother me. One thing I did do, was use one background. I often recommend this with scrap quilts. Since you're dumpster diving in the scrap bin sometimes those fabric combos can be wild, so one background helps make the quilt come together. I started with 3 yards of background fabric. Here's a few house's I've made so far:

When we were talking at the store, everyone wanted to add a few trees. It was a funny conversation because I made a basic tree, and then someone wanted a spring etc, and eventually we had 3 tree options. So here's the plan, we're going to be making a few houses each month so we can finish up by the end of the year. If you want to make a few trees, just sub those blocks for a house block in your final count.

This is the perfect project for those little bits of fabric that you can't seem to part with. We saved them for something, right! This project gives them a "home".
So grab you're scraps and join the fun! We would love it if you sewed along with us!

As always, I hope this inspires you to make something today!
