Blockheads 6 - Wrap up!

This post is long overdue! I hummed and hawed about finishing this quilt for a long time. Then my notes sat there for months while other things took priority. So...my apologies to those that are waiting for this one, but better late then never!
This is my Moda Blockheads 6 finished quilt. You know I love a sew along and I think I've made quilts out of all of the Moda Blockheads projects except for the first one. If you don't know what Moda Blockheads is, it's a free sew along hosted by Moda and features blocks designed by the Moda fabric designers. You can find all the free blocks for Moda Blockheads 6 here.
Usually just the blocks are free and several people make their own setting, including me. This series was paired with the paid for pattern, My Favorite Color is Still Moda. Many designer/participants used the setting from the pattern for their blocks. This setting would have been gorgeous with custom bundle I used, but I made all my blocks with a light background so I put myself into a bit of a pickle.

The bundle I used was a custom bundle we curated at the store. Inspired by our families annual trips to the Jersey Shore, I named this bundle Cape May. It's a blend of Americana blues mixed with sandy beige and tans. If we still have any in stock you can find them here.
So the saga began, since the center blocks was 27" and there were 18" and 9" blocks I started messing around with sashing and here's where I ended up. If you're interested in making my version, I pulled the instructions together for you here:
Just a mild warning, after I started down this path, I started calling this quilt, "death by sashing". Basically, there's a lot of sashing. If that's not your thing, this definitely isn't for you. I do love it in the end and while I tend to fall out of love with a project that lingers, this one came right back round to a love once I was done.
Some nitty gritty details, 2 of the 18" blocks I used are only in the paid for pattern and they use half rectangle blocks. There are alternate blocks for those sizes on Moda's website, so you don't have to purchase the pattern if you want to substitute those blocks.
Background fabric, I used Bella Porcelain 9900-182 for all my backgrounds. I started with 3 yards and I don't see any other notes so I must have made that work, but if you're worried, I'd buy 3 1/2 yards just for the blocks. The center block is a stunner! It would be gorgeous as a quilt on its own.
Backing - I used a 108" Wideback Ambiance by 3 Sisters 108037 11. If we still have it in stock you can find it here.
